Security and privacy
Passwords, two-factor authentication, sessions, and what Rental does with your data.
Renting involves handing over property and money. Here's how Rental protects both sides, and the settings that keep your account locked down.
Two-factor authentication
Enable 2FA under Settings → Security. Rental supports authenticator apps (TOTP) and SMS fallback. With 2FA on, a stolen password alone can't sign in to your account or change your payout details.
Passwords and sessions
- Rental stores passwords hashed and salted — never in plain text.
- Active sessions are listed under Settings → Security; sign out remotely from any device.
- Password changes sign out every other session automatically.
Payment security
Card details go directly to the payment processor — Rental stores only a token, never your full card or bank number. Payout account changes trigger re-verification and a notification email, so a silent swap is impossible.
What renters and owners can see
Before a booking is confirmed, the other side sees your display name, photo, listing, and message history for that thread. Phone numbers and pickup addresses are revealed only after confirmation. Rental never sells personal data, and message content is used only to resolve disputes on that booking.
Data export and deletion
Settings → Account → Export data produces a downloadable archive of your profile, listings, bookings, and message threads. Deletion requests are honored within 30 days, with records kept only where required for tax and fraud-prevention obligations.
